Woman hospitalised following Sheridan Street crash

A woman has been transported to hospital with minor injuries following a car rollover on a major Cairns road.

A woman has been transported to hospital with minor injuries following a car rollover on a major Cairns road around 4.30pm on Wednesday.

The woman, 36, was transported to Cairns Hospital in a stable condition following a two-vehicle crash on Sheridan St, on the corner of Minnie St.

Witness to the accident Brett Collins and his family were driving behind the woman’s car when he saw the car get clipped by another vehicle before rolling onto its side.

“It’s clipped her at a really unfortunate angle and (we) saw it go really slow. By the time I got there, she’d undone herself and was sitting on the window,” Mr Collins said.
“Poor bugger was so shaken.”

Mr Collins said the driver of the other car also went to assist the woman before emergency services arrived.

“He’s pulled over there and was at the car when I ran over on the other side. He was fine and helping her as well,” he said.
“She’s very lucky, only had a little cut on her hand. She was just very, very shaken.”

Acting Station Officer Michael Balmer said the scene could have been worse had the woman not been wearing her seatbelt.

“She was wearing her seatbelt. If she hadn’t of been, it would have been much more significant injuries,” Mr Balmer said.

“It’s an unfortunate position and looks much more dramatic than it actually is, and no one got any kind of serious injuries.”

The incident follows a separate crash on Wednesday afternoon where a male child was taken to hospital with head injuries following a two-vehicle crash in Manunda.
