“The absolute worst feeling”
An Aussie mum has taken to the ALDI Mums Facebook group this week, sharing an unfortunate end to her dinner.
“When you’re a mum of 2 under 2 and you have limited time for cooking, this is the absolute worst feeling,” the woman said in the post.
She also shared a few photos showing her pasta, purchased at ALDI. Once boiled, hundreds of tiny bugs have floated to the surface - yuck!

“They’re quite common!”
Commenters on the post were able to confirm that they were in fact weevils - a common find in your kitchen pantry.
“Just weevils. Very common with all dry goods (pasta, rice, flour, etc). They usually get packed in as eggs and hatch when they have better conditions so, you’ve likely eaten weevil eggs at one point or another,” said one commenter.
“Weevils and other small insects are quite common in all wheat, rice and nuts. Its natural and not something quality control can control,” said another.
Others said it was so common that the problem has also happened to them.
“Same pasta had them for us too! There so gross. I refuse to buy pasta now, traumatised me,” said one commenter.
“Happened to my pasta too only little tiny ants got into the sealed packet while it was in the pantry!” said another.
“We had the same thing last week! Had to throw the whole thing out and get takeaway cause of my hungry 2yr old,” a third agreed.
“Put them in the freezer!”
Whilst the weevils aren’t dangerous, they’re also not the most enjoyable thing to find in food you were just about to eat.
So, some commenters offered a hack to get rid of them for good (hopefully).
“In high humidity/ tropic areas happens to any pasta, grain, flour, rice. When you bring the bag home from the shop put in the freezer for 24 hours. Kills them before they develop into this. Or store in the freezer if you have the room,” one person said.
“i put it in freezer and then a super sealed container. I got pantry moths once from the bird seeds and god that was awful,” said another.
