“We hear them scream at each other every night and use foul language but now it’s been directed at our boy.”

When Amy* and her husband Harry* moved into their house five years ago, they were warned their next-door neighbours were a little unusual.
People across the road even gave the couple a heads-up that they should be a little cautious when dealing with them.
For the first two-and-a-half years, everything seemed fine. Then Amy and Harry had a child, and it all changed.

Neighbours file complaints about toddler’s noise
“They submitted a noise complaint against us for banging and toilet flushing,” a confused Amy wrote on Mumsnet.
The British woman didn’t understand why they would complain about the sound of the toilet flushing, considering it wasn’t overly loud and “it's not like we're on it constantly.”
But the loud banging, she completely understood. With a toddler running around the house, she and Harry have started to teach him how to play quietly.
“Carpeted lounge, no loud toys in the kitchen and no slamming doors,” she said, adding her son is at nursery three days a week, and will go to sleep at 6.30 every evening.

“We try to go out as much as possible as we feel uncomfortable being in the house in case we make too much noise,” she said.
The complaint was then “put down to normal household noise” but Amy and Harry tried their best to keep the racket down.

Despite their best efforts, the complaints kept coming. Now eight months into her second pregnancy, Amy is starting to feel a little stressed.
“Another neighbour has also reported them for aggressive behaviour and threatening to kill her dog,” she wrote.
Then things escalated further.
While sitting in their home, Amy and Harry overheard their neighbours “scream” at each other through the walls.
While their fighting was a common sight (or sound, in this case) for the couple, this time was a little different.
“Tonight, we've heard them complaining about us through the wall, and they've just called our 2.5-year-old little boy an autistic c**t,” she wrote in shock.
“We hear them scream at each other every night and use foul language, but now it’s been directed at our boy.”
Disgusted by what she heard, Amy filed a formal complaint about the comments to the lettings agent.
“The language we hear on a daily basis is foul, and I just don't know what to do anymore,” she said. “I had to stop my husband going round as he was absolutely fuming.”

“You're going to have a baby, it will cry…”
The Mumsnet community rallied around Amy and her toddler, defending them from their nasty neighbours, but stressed there wasn’t much she could do.
“I so feel for you. This is ridiculous, you have a right to live your life and enjoy your children,” a sympathetic parent said.
“You're going to have a baby, it will cry. Your neighbours will have to deal with it.”
“It sounds really tough if you can hear each other talking,” someone wrote. “I would move if I could but if not, then definitely soundproof the walls as much as possible and keep my fingers crossed that your awful neighbours move soon.”
“All you can do is as others say log date and time and report incidents of loud noise,” said another.
