What’s on: Events, family activities to do in Toowoomba March 2-3 2024

There is plenty to celebrate this first weekend of March, from eco-launches, sausage sizzles, fun runs, wrestling or finding a good book or two at the Lifeline Bookfest.

Toowoomba has an array of events this first weekend in March, so whether you want to see some sweaty wrestlers at the Powerhouse or curl up at home after a day finding bargains at the bookfest, there’s something for everyone.

1. Lifeline Bookfest

The massive much-loved Chronicle Lifeline Bookfest is back for the 44th time this weekend with approximately a quarter of a million books on sale.

Funds raised through the sale of the books means Lifeline can keep delivering more than 30 counselling and support programs in Toowoomba, the Darling Downs and across South West Queensland.

The Bookfest will be at Toowoomba Showgrounds on Saturday, March 2 from 8am to 5pm and Sunday, March 3 from 8am to 2pm.

2. Peak2Park Run

More than 2000 runners are expected to hit the road this Sunday in a morning of fitness, health, and wellbeing, some running a fun 4km and others a more challenging 10km.

Funds raised this year will go to Top Blokes, Sunrise Way, and Ability Enterprises.

The event will start at Picnic Point Parklands on Sunday, March 3, with the run starting at 7am before finishing up at Lake Annand.

3. Atomic Pro Wrestling

Toowoomba’s first and only pro wrestling tournament is celebrating its one year anniversary with a world class smack down at the Powerhouse.

Atomic Pro Wrestling will have dozens of fighters do battle in the ring on Saturday, March 2, from 5.30pm to 10pm at the Powerhouse, 20 Neil St, Toowoomba.

4. Voices of Veterans

Voices of Veterans, a veteran-led photographic exhibition by Mike Armstrong, explores the experience of veterans living with PTSD, and opens this weekend at the University of Southern Queensland.

The exhibition will be at B Block Art Gallery, University of Southern Queensland and is ongoing to March 29.

5. Lions Awareness Day

Toowoomba Wilsonton Lions is hosting their monthly sausage sizzle at Harvey Norman on

Saturday, March 2 from 8.30am to 2pm.

Come down to chat with community-minded members or sign up to join the Lions Club.

6. Swim Out of the Darkness

The 12-hour swimming marathon starts at 6pm on Saturday March 2 and ends 6am Sunday March 3 and will be raising awareness for mental health with an endurance swim. Funds raised this year will be donated to Beyond Blue.

The event will be at Concordia Lutheran College Aquatic Centre.

Cost of event entry is $25 per team. A free post swim barbecue breakfast by the pool will be provided after the event.

7. Darling Downs Environment Council Eco-Hut opening

The Darling Downs Environment Council is having an opening party to celebrate their new location.

Bring a plate to share and a picnic rug to commemorate the occasion.

The event will be on Saturday, March 2 from 11am to 3pm at Old Guide Hut at Picnic Point, 1A Heller St Rangeville.

8. Jimmy Rees – Let’s get regional

Following the success of Jimmy’s recently completed Not That Kinda Viral tour, he’s now taking to the stage across regional towns all over the country.

Head along to the Empire Theatre on Saturday, March 2, for a night of laugh from 7pm. Tickets start from $59.90. For more details visit the Empire Theatre website.

9. Sunday Sesh at Cambooya Community Hall

Bring your picnic rugs and folding chairs for an afternoon of tunes by Johhny D and food from the Toowoomba Food Feast Co-operative.

This event is at the Cambooya Hall on Sunday, March 3 from 3pm to 8pm.

10. ScribbleSesh Life Drawing

Mouse Proof Brewery will be hosting ScribbleSesh, a relaxed, costumed life drawing experience and this month features Adam Plant.

The session is on Sunday, March 3 from 6pm to 8pm.
