Two Brisbane sisters are in training for a trip up the range to take on The Chronicle’s 2km junior dash at the upcoming Toowoomba Marathon.
Phoebe, 7, and Bronte, 5, Buckley from Windsor both said they love playing football, basketball, Auskick and gymnastics and are looking forward to taking on the run.
In less than two weeks, they’ll be joining a number of other kids aged between 5 – 12 as they tie up their laces and tackle the course, leaving from the Toowoomba Sports Ground to run up and down along Lindsay St between Queen’s Park and Cobb & Co Museum.
Training to “beat her mum”, Phoebe said she was excited to run the course all the way to the finish line.
However they place, both sisters, along with every other runner who finishes, will receive a medal.
On Sunday, May 5 more than 1500 runners are expected to run through the streets of the Garden City.
The marathon is expected to build Toowoomba’s profile as a running destination, and organisers are expecting people from across Australia and the world.
The race includes a length of routes to choose from depending on fitness and challenge – 2km, 5km, 10km, 21km and 42km.
Starting at the Toowoomba Sports Ground, the marathon route takes runners up to Picnic Point, back through the CBD, up to Prince Henry Heights and another lap along a similar route.
