The sky has become the limit with six weeks to go before more than 1500 runners are expected to run through the streets of the Garden City.
The Wellcamp Airport is taking the inaugural Toowoomba Marathon to new heights, partnering with the Toowoomba Marathon for the next three years in what Events Management Queensland chief executive Ben Mannion said would “deliver strong economic and tourism impacts to the region this year and in the future”.
“The fact that businesses from the city are prepared to support the Toowoomba Marathon delivers a strong message to the region and we are confident that their enthusiasm will extend to the regional community, and they enter what will be a world-class event in their own backyard,” Mr Mannion said.
Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport general manager Kellie Banditt said the organisation was looking forward to promoting the event and travel options through the airport, which offered direct services to and from Sydney, Brisbane, Melbourne and Townsville.
The marathon is expected to build Toowoomba’s profile as a running destination, and organisers are expected people from across Australia and the world.
The marathon is on Sunday, May 5 and includes a length of routes to choose from depending on fitness and challenge.
Starting at the Toowoomba Sports Ground, the route takes runners up to Picnic Point, back through the CBD, up to Prince Henry Heights and another lap along a similar route.
Early bird entries for the Toowoomba Marathon close March 31.
