The 159th Toowoomba Show kicked off this week, as young and old from around the region gather in celebration of all things agricultural and beyond – from dog shows, bull rides, hamburger competitions and even a medieval armoured combat.
Despite weather concerns, People’s Day did not disappoint, and the sky remained a clear blue with an estimated 15-20,000 people walking through the gates, the show’s marketing co-ordinator Brendan McDonald said.
“We’re expecting to beat last year’s numbers of more than 30,000 people,” he said.
Personal carer and mother of five Emily Millar visited the show on Thursday with her 7-year-old daughter Aria and said they “absolutely loved it”.
“We had to go and buy fruit and veggies to plant today (Friday) and became our own farmers,” she said.
Ms Millar said she and Aria spent the whole day at the show visiting the cakes, watching the pig races and naming one Rainbow, which unfortunately didn’t win, and braving the fastest ride at the show as well as the haunted house.
Their favourite was the petting zoo which they visited twice, she said.
She was looking forward to returning on Saturday, this time with her older three kids, who are between 12 and 15 years.
The 159th Heritage Bank Toowoomba Royal Show continues until Saturday, April 20 and features agricultural displays, entertainment, and various competitions and races.
