An acclaimed Hollywood superstar has revealed her secret obsession with Married At First Sight Australia, describing the local stars as “so hectic”.
“Like, they [the cast] take it somewhere else,” said Irish actress Saoirse Ronan during a filmed interview with W Magazine.
The four-time Oscar nominee was initially asked what her favourite reality show was, prompting her to excitedly discuss her preference for the Aussie iteration of the global dating franchise.
“Because the Aussies are like, so extra,” the Little Women star said.
“Aussies will say it themselves, they’re like, hectic. They are so hectic.
“They have [MAFS] in the UK as well but I just skipped all that and I’ve gone straight to Australia.”
Ronan, who is no stranger to working alongside Aussies, having shared the screen with Margot Robbie in the 2018 film Mary Queen of Scots, went on to say she continues to follow updates after the show ends to keep abreast of whether or not couples stay together.
“None of them do. Shocker,” she laughed.
Discussing the drama that unfolded in the most recent season she binge watched, Ronan appeared to reference last year’s couple swappers Jonathan McCullough and Ellie Dix, who started the show married to other people before forging a relationship with one another.
“In the season that I’ve recently watched, I don’t think any of them stay together except for one couple that were actually matched with different people,” Ronan went on.
“And then, they started secretly texting behind their partner’s backs.
“Very Australia. Very hectic.”
Ronan finished, declaring, “If I met someone from Married At First Sight I would die.”
The actress is in for a treat when she finally gets around to tuning into this year’s season, with Monday night’s episode dishing up a doozy.
Bride Jacqui had a complete meltdown at the intruder wedding, picking a fight with her husband Ryan after being triggered by new groom Teejay’s sweet vows.
Relations only worsened after fellow bride Rhi confronted an already emotional Jacqui about a message she sent to her TV husband, Jeff.
“Jacqui, if you like Ryan so much why would you message Jeff behind my back?” Rhi asked her.
Cue an almighty breakdown from Jacqui, who sobbed loudly in full view and earshot of wedding guests.
“Dinner and a show,” intruder bride Beth chuckled to her new husband.
Ronan is not the first international celebrity to reveal their thoughts on our version of MAFS.
While promoting Furiosa: A Mad Max Saga in June last year, Argentine actress Anya Taylor-Joy admitted to her Aussie co-star Chris Hemsworth she had recently been introduced to the show. Her lack of elaborating said it all.
“A friend of mine sent me a couple of episodes of [MAFS], and it’s intense man,” Taylor-Joy said. “It’s a vibe.”
