Queensland became home of the Australian Academy of Cinema and Television Arts Awards, affectionately dubbed the ‘Oscars of Australia’, on February 10, 2024.

The AACTA Awards and the AACTA Industry Awards, both by the Foxtel Group, were held at the Home of the Arts (HOTA), turning Surfers Paradise into the epicentre of the Australian screen industry for one magical weekend.

The 13th edition of the awards, 2024 marked a shift for the awards ceremony, with the event’s Queensland debut, after it was announced in 2023 that the Sunshine State had secured the event in a three-year deal, taking over from Sydney.

This was also the first time the awards will be held in February, aligning with the international awards season.

Hollywood’s finest, including the likes of Cate Blanchett, Margot Robbie, and Ron Howard, along with Aussie favourites such as the comedic actor Rebel Wilson, who led the ceremony as host, descended upon HOTA’s Theatre.

This year also heralded the launch of the inaugural AACTA Festival, running parallel to the awards from February 8 to 11.
