A pair of popular Toowoomba pub owners have revealed their continued move into accommodation, after acquiring a small town motel.

The Met Hotel’s Kosta and Jasmine Theodosis, who have been credited with reviving the former Metropole as a trendy venue after taking it over three years ago, announced this week they had bought the Golden Grain Motel in Pittsworth.

Mr Theodosis, who is a regular touring drummer for national acts like Thelma Plum and Conrad Sewell, fell in love with the charm of the nine-room motor inn on Yandilla Street when he saw it.

He said the couple had developed a taste for the accommodation sector after offering rooms for rent above the Met.

“We started doing the accommodation at the pub at the start of the year and that was a game-changer. We discovered there was such a need for accommodation,” Mr Theodosis said.

“It’s great and tidy as is, but we’re keen to make improvements. It will be more of a restoration and keeping that mid-century charm.

“I think of that California, Palm Springs motel-vibe, that’s where we would be heading with it.”

The investment, worth $500,000 according to RP Data, comes as Pittsworth enjoys significant commercial interest from out-of-towners.

New developments include a new 35-lot subdivision and a set of four two-bedroom units.

Mr Theodosis said he loved how busy Pittsworth’s main street was when the couple came to check out the Golden Grain.

“We went out there a couple of months ago and we just loved the area. Yandilla Street is so cool, and they’ve got the lot of activity out there,” he said.

“There was a lot going on and I’ve got family out there as well, so that’s a bonus.”

Mr Theodosis said the pair would remain involved with the Met but planned to focus attention on the motel.
