The inaugural Toowoomba Children’s Business Fair is giving students the opportunity to “test drive ideas” and become an entrepreneur for a day.
Taking place on December 14 in partnership with the Toowoomba Farmers Markets, the fair will feature a variety of stalls selling products made by the students themselves.
Products that will be available for purchase on the day include baked dog treats, beeswax goods, handcrafted bows and second-hand books.
The event organiser Kate McNicholl said the fair was a fun opportunity where kids will get to “test drive ideas”.
“What I really love is taking what they’re learning in the classroom and showing the purpose of it in real life,” Ms McNicholl said.
Mel Weller, a parent of one of the students participating in the fair, said that it was important “for kids to have a purpose and a project to work towards”.
“We’re really excited about the idea of giving kids some independence and ownership,” Ms Weller said.
Jeff Sandefer, founder of the Acton School of Business and event sponsor, said the fair “gives students the opportunity to spread their entrepreneurial wings and get a head start on promising careers”.
The Toowoomba Children’s Business Fair will take place on December 14 from 7am-noon at the Toowoomba Farmers Markets.
