The State Government has awarded a $1.3 million grant to Envorinex to build a new plastic recycling facility in Toowoomba.
Treasurer and Minister for Investment Cameron Dick yesterday visited the site of the new Envorinex plant at Wellcamp Airport, taking part in a sod-turning event.
“This project will bring 30 new jobs to Toowoomba and keep nearly 8000 tonnes of waste out of landfill each year,” the Treasurer said.
“Envorinex will use this grant to build a $3.9 million facility in Toowoomba and establish a plastic waste recovery, processing and remanufacturing operation in the region.
“As anyone who visits their local tip on the weekend can tell you, there are up to three times as many jobs in recycling and resource recovery as there are in landfill.”
The facility will process rigid plastics from the agriculture, aquaculture, horticulture and industrial industries into plastic pellets to then be remanufactured and recycled.
Envorinex’s managing director and co-founder Jenny Brown said the new facility would process plastic waste and use the raw materials to manufacture products.
She said the proximity to the airport was a key factor in choosing to build at Wellcamp.
