A NEW plastic recycling plant that will process up to 8000 tonnes of material every year has been proposed for the western Toowoomba region.

Wagner Corporation, on behalf of company Envorinex, submitted plans to the Toowoomba Regional Council for the high-impact industry at its Wellcamp Business Park, right next to the Toowoomba Wellcamp Airport.

According to the report by Precinct Urban Planning, the new facility will clean and recycle plastics before they are re-manufactured into second-life products.

"The proposed facility will accommodate two separate but adjacent buildings, namely the Reprocessing building engaged in plastics cleaning and recycling, and the re-manufacturing building engaged in manufacturing second life plastic products from reclaimed, recycled and palletised plastic compounds," the report said.

"The proposed plant will operate 24/7 for a minimum of 300 days per annum, although approval for continuous operation is sought under this application.

"At typical production levels the facility with recycle and process 8,000 tonnes of high-density polyethyleneand polypropylene per annum."

The report said the plant would employ up to 36 workers, with five trucks servicing it every day.

According to its website, Envorinex is a Tasmanian company "dedicated to providing innovative and proven polymer product solutions to national and international clients".

"Our team has over 130 years of polymer experience and being dedicated to customer service we are continually researching and developing environmentally responsible and 100 per cent recyclable products."

This isn't the first recycling plant proposed for the Wellcamp Business Park, with the council approving a tyre processing facility recently.
