LG StanbyMe Go: Road Test
If James Bond was a television-loving couch potato rather than a busy man with things to do and people to kill, do you think he would like this nifty telly-in-a-briefcase from LG?
WHAT IS IT? A briefcase with a neat trick. Open it up and ... ta-daah! It has a battery-powered smart TV inside.
NICE. VERY JAMES BOND. Well, I suppose so – if Bond was a telly-loving couch potato rather than a busy man with things to do, people to kill.
WHAT DOES IT DO? It streams content from services including Netflix, Apple TV and YouTube; it’ll also mirror content from a phone. The hard-shell case has passed five “military standard” stress tests, LG says breathlessly. And see that tiny button on the side? Press it and the whole thing turns into an armour-piercing limpet mine.
REALLY?No, not really. But the 27-inch screen is HD and the inbuilt battery lasts up to three hours, LG claims. (It also claims this thing is “portable”. It weighs 14kg).
ANYTHING ELSE?Yes, it’s not just a telly; it’s also a touchscreen that you can swivel into portrait mode and use like a giant tablet – perfect for all your on-the-go doomscrolling needs. You can also lay the screen flat and play digital board games like chess on it. And you can set it to “mood” mode, where it displays a crackling fireplace or a beach scene with crashing waves. Actually, come to think of it, it’s not very Bond at all, it’s ... Go Go GADGET!
