Beach Soul portable shower: Road Test
This portable, hand-cranked shower is ideal for rinsing off the sand and salt at any beach that doesn’t have public showers.
WHAT IS IT? A handy bit of kit for your outdoor adventures this summer: it’s a portable shower!
GOOD IDEA. Yes. It’s ideal for rinsing off the sand and salt at any beach that doesn’t have public showers; you can also use it to wash off bikes and kayaks, and hose down mucky animals such as dogs and small children before they get back in the car.
HOW DOES IT WORK? It’s manually operated. You fill it with water – it holds
8 litres (Beach Soul also does a 5-litre version for $139) – before venturing out, and when you’re ready to use it, you pump the handle about 10 times to build up the initial pressure then shower away. It’ll need the odd top-up pump during a typical run-time of about three to four minutes.
VITAL STATISTICS? It’s a cylinder 56cm tall and 18cm wide, and it weighs 10.25kg when full of water. The shower head has various modes, including a hands-free option. And it comes with a removable 4mm neoprene cover (like a big stubby holder), which will be handy in the winter months when you fill it with warm water.
