Road Test: Burleigh Wagon
Heading to the beach or a picnic with young kids this summer? The Burleigh Wagon is for you.
WHAT IS IT? A godsend for parents of young children heading off for a picnic or to the beach this summer: it’s “Australia’s first cooler wagon”!
NICE. Yeah. It holds up to three kids, and has an inbuilt esky and a storage compartment. You pull the whole thing along with the handle at the front.
IS IT SAFE? It complies with Aussie stroller safety standards – there’s seatbelts for the kids, a parking brake, and a safety tether for the handle. You can also customise the wagon with various extras.
SUCH AS? A shade umbrella ($69); a side storage rack for a surfboard ($79); a snack tray with dual stubby holders ($69) and a Bluetooth speaker ($49).
SO IT’S A SELF-CONTAINED PARTY ON WHEELS! That’s the idea. It “makes your day out with kids a lot easier”, says the mum who invented it. (Presumably she’s talking about stuffing the esky with chardonnay.)
ANYTHING ELSE? It’s equipped with all-terrain tyres, weighs about 25kg, and has a whopping 150kg carrying capacity. That’s a lot of gear! Or some very fat kids.
