Josh Frydenberg is in isolation at his home in Melbourne after a member of his staff tested positive to Covid-19.

The Treasurer on Tuesday said he had received a negative test result but would remain in isolation until further notice out of an abundance of caution.

Mr Frydenberg’s electorate office in Melbourne has been closed and will undergo deep cleaning.

The Treasurer said he was informed of his staff member’s positive test result on Monday night. “At present, the staff member is yet to be contacted by Victorian Health and Human Services contact tracers, which would start the process to determine if my electorate office would be deemed an exposure site,” he said on Tuesday.

“Staff members who had been in contact with the Covid-19 positive staff member are being tested and isolating.”

Mr Frydenberg said he would not provide further “details or updates” on the staff member out of privacy.

The announcement comes as Victoria recorded Australia’s highest daily Covid-19 case figures with 1,763 new local infections and four deaths in the 24 hours to midnight.

Victorian Premier Daniel Andrews on Tuesday announced a vaccination blitz for 27 postcodes where single-dose rates are below 75 per cent.
