Police will keep a close watch on the funeral of murdered Sydney mother Lametta Fadlallah in southwest Sydney on Monday, as reports emerge that hit men were paid at least $500,000 for her death.

Underworld figures have told The Daily Telegraph that Ms Fadlallah’s murder was an act of revenge after she was forced into speaking to authorities in order to protect a loved one.

The newly revealed motive may explain why Ms Fadlallah’s killers tapped the window of the car she was sitting in four times before she was shot.

“They made sure she saw the gun before she died,” Ms Fadlallah’s mother, Nadia, told The Australian last week.

Sitting next to Ms Fadlallah in the back seat of the car – which was driven by a 20-year-old man and had a 16-year-old social media influencer in the passenger seat – was innocent bystander Amy Hazouri, who was also killed.

A source told The Daily Telegraph there was “no way” the hit was due to a debt.

“It was pretty graphic to tap the window and then to look them in the eyes … and that poor girl (in the front seat), she will never recover,” the source said.

“That is why (it’s because) she was a snitch,” they said.

“There were four people there, two shooters, $100,000 for each person, and then you’re talking $25,000 per gun, and then the cars,” another source told the publication.

On Monday, Ms Fadlallah’s family will bury the 48-year-old, who police say had previously had links with organised crime but only had a minor history in the courts for traffic matters. Sources say her name had appeared in various intelligence briefings.

Shooting victim revealed as known gangster

A high-visibility police presence is expected at the funeral at Saint Charbel’s Monastery in Punchbowl, with officers to keep a careful eye on the proceedings.

Previous high-profile funerals have been monitored by dozens of police from the anti-gang Raptor squad, which was recently bolstered in numbers following the attempted hit on Comanchero sergeant-at-arms Tarek Zahed.

Public order and riot squad, highway patrol and general duties officers are also likely to be patrolling surrounding streets.

Ms Fadlallah leaves behind a 21-year-old son from her marriage in the early 2000s to Shadi Derbas.

She was also married to standover man Helal Safi, who died last year. She has a 15-year-old son with him, who told The Australian last week his mother was “a very good woman”.

Police say the shooting presents a new era of Sydney’s underworld, with the traditional “rules of engagement” having now been “thrown out the window”.
