Geordie Williamson has been chief literary critic of The Australian since 2008. He is publisher of the Picador imprint at Pan Macmillan, a former editor of Island Magazine and Best Australian Essays, and author of The Burning Library, a collection of essays on neglected figures from Australian literature. He lives in Hobart.

Christopher Allen has been The Australian’s national art critic since 2008. He is an art historian and educator, teaching classical Greek and Latin. He has written an edited several books including Art in Australia and believes that the history of art in this country is often underestimated.

John Durie has been a business reporter for 40 years, starting his career in the Canberra Press Gallery in 1980. John has worked as a Chanticleer Columnist for the AFR, a business columnist for the New York Post, and also worked in Paris.

Elizabeth Hewson is a recipe writer, cookbook author, and founder of a retail food brand. She celebrates the joy of everyday, home cooking. Find her recipes in The Weekend Australian Magazine, where she joins chef Lennox Hastie on the culinary team.

Rowan Callick is a double Walkley Award winner and a Graham Perkin Australian Journalist of the Year. He has worked and lived in Papua New Guinea, Hong Kong and Beijing.

Peter Jennings is director of Strategic Analysis Australia and was executive director of the Australian Strategic Policy Institute from 2012 to 2022. He is a former deputy secretary for strategy in the Defence Department (2009-12).

Virginia Tapscott is a freelance and creator of the podcast investigation, delving into the impact of sexual abuse and the challenges of confronting it within a family. She was the 2019 Caroline Jones Women in Media Young Journalist’s award winner. Founding Director of the Parents Work Collective, her writing focuses on early childhood and parenting. Virginia is based on a farm in southern NSW.

Timothy J. Lynch is professor of political science at the University of Melbourne. He writes on contemporary America and its intersections with Australian life. An award-winning writer, Lynch’s latest book is In the Shadow of the Cold War: American Foreign Policy from George Bush Sr. to Donald Trump. He holds a PhD in political science from Boston College, US, and was twice awarded a Fulbright scholarship. In 2022, he lived in Wyoming, America’s reddest state. He is a citizen of Australia and Great Britain and lives in rural Victoria.

Roger Montgomery is the founder and Chief Investment Officer of Montgomery Investment Management, which won the Lonsec Emerging Fund Manager of the Year award in 2016. Prior to establishing Montgomery, Roger held positions at Ord Minnett Jardine Fleming, BT (Australia) Limited and Merrill Lynch. He is the author of the best-selling, value-investing guide book Value.able and has been writing his popular column about investing and markets for The Australian since 2012. Roger is an unconventional investment thinker, launching one of the earliest retail funds in Australia with a broad mandate to be able to hold large amounts of cash when perceived risks exceed implied returns.





Adrian McMurray is the afternoon homepage editor at The Australian, having previously worked as the weekend digital editor and as a digital producer at the masthead. With 14 years of experience in the media industry, he was formerly a presenter and producer at NRL.com. Adrian completed a Bachelor of Media (Honours) at Macquarie University.
Scott Henry is The Australian’s digital morning editor. He has been a journalist for more than three decades. Prior to joining the digital desk of the masthead in 2014, he worked as a night editor, chief-of-staff, features and opinion editor and covered politics as a reporter.

Brighette Ryan is The Australian’s digital night editor. She was previously Social Media Editor, leading the paper’s social media strategy across platforms including Facebook, Twitter and Instagram. Brighette has also worked as a producer for 2SM and as a social media producer for the Nine Network.

Jason Gagliardi is the engagement editor and a columnist at The Australian, who got his start at The Courier-Mail in Brisbane. He was based for 25 years in Hong Kong and Bangkok. His work has been featured in publications including Time, the Sunday Telegraph Magazine (UK), Colors, Playboy, Sports Illustrated, Harpers Bazaar and Roads & Kingdoms, and his travel writing won Best Asean Travel Article twice at the ASEANTA Awards.
Tom Crystal is an experienced digital editor and producer, working across the masthead’s website, app and newsletters and specialising in live breaking news and major events coverage such as the Paris Olympics. He was previously on The Australian’s Sports desk.

Giselle Bueti is a digital producer and SEO specialist for The Australian. She has worked for a number of NewsCorp titles including The Herald Sun, Advertiser and Daily Telegraph. As part of the digital team at The Australian, Giselle produces stories for a range of topic areas including food, lifestyle, breaking news and entertainment.

Imogen Reid is a journalist and digital producer who began her career at The Australian as a cadet in 2019 after moving from a reporting role at news.com.au. She has covered varied assignments including hard news, lifestyle and travel. Most recently she has been focused on driving engagement across The Australian’s multiple digital products.

Lydia Lynch is The Australian’s overnight homepage editor, based in London. She most recently covered state and federal politics for the paper in Queensland. She has won multiple Clarion Awards for her political coverage and was a Walkley Award finalist in 2023 for her work on the investigative podcast Shandee’s Story. Before joining The Australian in 2021, Lydia worked for newspapers in Katherine, Mount Isa and Brisbane.

Emilia is a design director and illustrator at The Australian. She has over 8 years of experience working in the design industry and has won awards from AWARD School, AGDA and The Best Design Awards. She is a Design (Honours) in Visual Communication, graduate from the UTS School of Design and an AWARD school graduate from Sydney’s 2023 cohort. Emilia volunteers in her spare time by designing for not-for-profit organisations.

Idit Nilsson has worked at The Australian since 2002, designing the daily paper as well as special sections and projects. Prior to that she worked at Haaretz subsidiary Maariv and Ynet.

Emmaline Stigwood is a digital editor for The Australian’s Business Network, including The Richest 250 List. She was previously a Business journalist and has been a chief of staff and senior reporter covering Courts, Legal Affairs and Education at The Courier-Mail.

Lilly Vitorovich is a journalist at The Australian, producing and editing business stories. Lilly joined The Australian in 2018 as media writer, covering corporate and industry news. She started her career in Sydney, before heading to London to work for Dow Jones Newswires and The Wall Street Journal. She has been a journalist since 1999, covering a broad range of topics, including mergers and acquisitions, IPOs, industry trends and leaders.

Mike Wood is a producer and writer who joined the sports desk at The Australian in 2000. Before that he was a reporter with leading British magazine Golf Monthly. He has written or contributed to a number of books on a variety of sports, including golf, rugby union and the Olympics.

Valerina Changarathil reports on a wide range of news and issues relating to businesses in South Australia across start-ups, technology developers, biotechs, mining and energy companies, agriculture and food, and tourism.

Joseph Lam is a technology and property reporter at The Australian. He joined the national daily in 2019 after he cut his teeth as a freelancer across publications in Australia, Hong Kong and Thailand.

Joseph Carbone is a producer for The Australian Business Network after serving as Acting Digital Editor for The Weekly Times, Australia’s foremost rural news source.

A videographer and writer focusing on visual storytelling. Before coming to The Australian, she worked across News Corp’s Prestige and Metro mastheads, Nine and Agence-France Presse.
Jasper Leak is an audio producer at The Australian. In 2023 he won a Walkley award in the Audio Long category for Dying Rose, and an AIPS Sport Media award for Head Noise. He is also a published musician, and in 2019 was nominated for an Emmy award for Best Music Supervision for his work on the Netflix documentary, Quincy. After spending 17 years in the US, he now happily resides in the Blue Mountains.

John Feder has worked as a photographer for News mastheads The Australian, the Sunday Herald-Sun and the Sunday Herald over the past three decades. He’s covered wars in Iraq and East Timor, federal politics and the terror attacks on 9/11, which happened while he was travelling with Prime Minister John Howard in Washington. Some of John’s most renowned sports photos include Cathy Freeman wrapped in the Australian flag at the Commonwealth Games and Nicky Winmar defiantly gesturing to an AFL crowd

Elizabeth Meryment is a senior travel, food and lifestyle writer and journalist. Based in Sydney, she has been a writer, editor, and contributor to The Australian since 2003, and has worked across titles including The Daily Telegraph, The Sunday Telegraph, Qantas Magazine, delicious and more. Since 2022, she has edited lifestyle content for The Weekend Australian Magazine.

Ross Bilton has been a journalist for 30 years. He is a subeditor and writer on The Australian Weekend Magazine, where he has worked since 2006; previously he was at the Daily Mail in London.

Francesca is a digital lifestyle journalist specialising in fashion, home and travel. She has held editorial positions at Vogue, Vogue Living, Marie Claire and InStyle, recently departing the role of E-Commerce Editor across Vogue and Vogue Living. Her words have also appeared on The Sydney Morning Herald, The Age and in print across a number of luxury magazine titles. She is based in Sydney and joined The Australian in 2020.

Gladys serves as Digital Content Producer on Vogue, Vogue Living and GQ. Previously, she worked in museums and galleries before becoming an intern and freelancer at Vogue. Currently, she’s working on a thesis for her Art History major and completing the last year of her law degree. You’ll probably find her somewhere in Sydney sketching strangers on the train.
