Michelle Gunn started her career as a cadet reporter at The Australian and is now the Editor-In-Chief. Ms Gunn has been editor of The Australian since May 2020 and before that, was the editor of The Weekend Australian for eight years.

Paul Kelly is Editor-at-Large on The Australian. He was previously Editor-in-Chief of the paper and he writes on Australian politics, public policy and international affairs. Paul has covered Australian governments from Gough Whitlam to Anthony Albanese. He is a regular television commentator and the author and co-author of twelve books books including The End of Certainty on the politics and economics of the 1980s. His recent books include Triumph and Demise on the Rudd-Gillard era and The March of Patriots which offers a re-interpretation of Paul Keating and John Howard in office.

Petra Rees is the launch editor of The Australian’s Health & Wellbeing section. Rees has been deputy editor of The Australian since 2016, her second stint in the role, and has previously served as national chief-of-staff, deputy editor of The Weekend Australian Magazine, editor of Review and editor of new magazine publications. The Walkley award winner, who has an honours degree in literature, began her career in journalism more than 40 years ago in Wollongong and also worked at the Times on Sunday.

Georgina Windsor joined The Australian as a cadet journalist and has held many senior editing and reporting roles on the newspaper, including a stint in the Canberra Press Gallery. She was deputy Media editor before joining the Australian Business Review team as deputy editor. She was then Life section editor and Inquirer editor before being appointed the masthead’s deputy editor in 2023.

Richard Ferguson is the National Chief of Staff for The Australian. Since joining the newspaper in 2016, he has been a property reporter, a Melbourne reporter, and regularly penned Cut and Paste and Strewth. Richard – winner of the 2018 News Award Young Journalist of the Year – has covered the 2016, 2019 and 2022 federal polls, the Covid-19 pandemic, and he was on the ground in London for Brexit and Boris Johnson’s 2019 UK election victory.

Perry Williams is The Australian’s Business Editor. He was previously a senior reporter covering energy and has also worked at Bloomberg and the Australian Financial Review as resources editor and deputy companies editor.

Amber Plum has been Deputy Business Editor at The Australian since 2018, after joining the masthead in 2016. She was previously a European correspondent and deputy editor at Business Spectator.

Damon Johnston has been a journalist for more than 35 years. Before joining The Australian as Victoria Editor in February 2020, Johnston was the editor of the Herald Sun – Australia’s biggest selling daily newspaper – from 2012 to 2019. From 2008 to 2012, Johnston was the editor of the Sunday Herald Sun. During his editorship of the Herald Sun, the newspaper broke the story of Lawyer X, Australia’s biggest police corruption scandal, which was recognised with major journalism awards in 2019. Between 2003 and 2008, Johnston held several senior editorial roles on the Herald Sun, including Chief-of-Staff and Deputy Editor. From 2000 to 2003, Johnston was the New York correspondent for News Corporation and covered major international events including the 9/11 terrorist attacks on the city. After joining the Herald Sun in 1992, Johnston covered several rounds including industrial relations, transport and state politics.

Stephen Rice started his newspaper career at The Sydney Morning Herald before moving into television, where he became executive producer of Nine’s Business Sunday programs. He has worked as a senior investigative producer on 60 Minutes and the Seven Network’s Sunday Night. He has twice won Walkley awards, including the award for Leadership in Journalism, and has law and arts degrees from ANU.

Brad Norington is an Associate Editor at The Australian, writing about national affairs and NSW politics. Brad was previously The Australian’s Washington Correspondent during the Obama presidency and has been working at the paper since 2004. Prior to that, he was a journalist at The Sydney Morning Herald. Brad is the author of three books, including Planet Jackson about the HSU scandal and Kathy Jackson.

Michael McKenna is Queensland Editor at The Australian.

Greg Brown is the Canberra Bureau chief. He previously spent five years covering federal politics for The Australian where he built a reputation as a newsbreaker consistently setting the national agenda.

Nicholas Jensen is commentary editor at The Australian. He previously worked as a reporter in the masthead’s NSW bureau. He studied history at the University of Melbourne, where he obtained a BA (Hons), and holds an MPhil in British and European History from the University of Oxford.

Greg Sheridan is The Australian’s foreign editor. His most recent book, Christians, the urgent case for Jesus in our world, became a best seller weeks after publication. It makes the case for the historical reliability of the New Testament and explores the lives of early Christians and contemporary Christians. He is one of the nation’s most influential national security commentators, who is active across television and radio, and also writes extensively on culture and religion. He has written eight books, mostly on Asia and international relations. A previous book, God is Good for You, was also a best seller. When We Were Young and Foolish was an entertaining memoir of culture, politics and journalism. As foreign editor, he specialises in Asia and America. He has interviewed Presidents and Prime Ministers around the world.

Christine Middap is associate editor and chief writer at The Australian. She was previously editor of The Weekend Australian Magazine for 11 years. Christine worked as a journalist and editor in Tasmania, Queensland and NSW, and at The Times in London. She is a former foreign correspondent and London bureau chief for News Corp’s Australian newspapers.

Hedley Thomas is The Australian’s national chief correspondent, specialising in investigative reporting with an interest in legal issues, the judiciary, corruption and politics. He has won eight Walkley awards including two Gold Walkleys; the first in 2007 for his investigations into the fiasco surrounding the Australian Federal Police investigations of Dr Mohamed Haneef, and the second in 2018 for his podcast, The Teacher’s Pet, investigating the 1982 murder of Sydney mother Lynette Dawson. Bridget Carter has worked as a writer and editor for The Australian’s DataRoom column since it was launched in 2013, focusing on capital markets, mergers and acquisitions, private equity and investment banking. She has been a journalist for more than 18 years, covering a broad range of events and topics, including high profile court cases and crimes, natural disasters, social issues and company news.

Award-winning photographer Milan Scepanovic has had a lifelong love affair with photography. He has been a staff photographer with regional newspapers and worked on the Daily Telegraph as photographer and picture editor. Milan has led News’ photographic and video coverage of three Olympic Games and two Commonwealth Games, and has been The Australian’s Photographic Editor since 2008.

Christine Kellett is The Australian’s digital director. She was previously content director, The Weekend Australian’s digital editor and has been a news editor, chief of staff and senior reporter at titles including The Age, The Sydney Morning Herald, Brisbane Times and news.com.au.

Award-winning editor Jennifer Campbell has edited a range of sections during her long career at The Australian, including opinion and features. She was also senior editor on The Weekend Australian Magazine for seven years. Campbell won a Walkley Award in 2001 for leading The Australian’s centenary of federation coverage.

Elizabeth Colman began her career at The Australian working in the Canberra press gallery and as industrial relations correspondent for the paper. In Britain she was a reporter on The Times and an award-winning financial journalist at The Sunday Times. She is a past contributor to Vogue, former associate editor of The Daily Telegraph and the Sunday Telegraph, and former editor of the Wentworth Courier. Elizabeth was one of the architects of The Australian’s new website theoz.com.au and launch editor of Life & Times, and was most recently The Australian’s content director.

Natasha Robinson is The Australian’s health editor and writes across medicine, science, health policy, research, and lifestyle. Natasha has been a journalist for more than 20 years in newspapers and broadcasting, has been recognised as the National Press Club’s health journalist of the year and is a Walkley awards finalist and a Kennedy Awards winner. She is a former Northern Territory correspondent for The Australian with a special interest in Indigenous health. Natasha is also a graduate of the NSW Legal Profession Admission Board’s Diploma of Law and has been accepted as a doctoral candidate at QUT’s Australian Centre for Health Law Research, researching involuntary mental health treatment and patient autonomy.

Greg Bearup is a feature writer at The Weekend Australian Magazine and was previously The Australian’s South Asia Correspondent. He has been a journalist for more than thirty years having worked at The Armidale Express, The Inverell Times, The Newcastle Herald, The Sydney Morning Herald and was at Good Weekend Magazine before moving to The Weekend Australian Magazine in 2012. He is a three-time winner of the Walkley Award, and has written two books, Adventures in Caravanastan and Exit Wounds, written with Major General John Cantwell. Stephen Lunn is The Australian’s Social Affairs Editor, covering social policy issues including ageing, population, disability, welfare, and migration. He has previously been the paper’s environment writer and Tokyo correspondent. He has also worked in public policy advocacy in the private sector, and practised as a lawyer in Australia and the UK. Stephen has a Masters degree in law from the London School of Economics.

Jamie Walker is a senior staff writer, based in Brisbane, who covers national affairs, politics, technology and special interest issues. He is a former Europe correspondent (1999-2001) and Middle East correspondent (2015-16) for The Australian, and earlier in his career wrote for The South China Morning Post, Hong Kong. He has held a range of other senior positions on the paper including Victoria Editor and ran domestic bureaux in Brisbane, Perth and Adelaide; he is also a former assistant editor of The Courier-Mail. He has won numerous journalism awards in Australia and overseas, and is the author of a biography of the late former Queensland premier, Wayne Goss. Penny Timms is a multi-platform health reporter. She has a particular interest in consumer health, future preparedness, and medical science. Penny joins The Australian following a background in public and independent journalism in Sydney, London, the Northern Territory, and Queensland.

Fiona Harari is an award-winning journalist who has worked in print and television. A Walkley freelance journalist of the year and the author of two books, Fiona returned to The Australian in 2019 after 15 years.

Imogen Reid is a journalist and digital producer who began her career at The Australian as a cadet in 2019 after moving from a reporting role at news.com.au. She has covered varied assignments including hard news, lifestyle and travel. Most recently she has been focused on driving engagement across The Australian’s multiple digital products.

Professor Steve Robson is one of Australia’s most highly qualified surgical specialists, researchers and teachers. He works at the Australian National University Medical School and has served as president of the Australian Medical Association and the Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynaecologists. In addition to holding two research PhDs Steve has degrees in genetics, public health, and health economics. He has served with the National Health and Medical Research Council, the Australian Medical Council, and in multiple other national and international roles. Steve has been the author of hundreds of medical journal articles and textbook chapters. He served as a Medical Officer in the Royal Australian Navy in the first Gulf War where he received a citation for meritorious service. Steve is a Fellow of the Royal Society of Medicine.

Associate Professor Magdalena Simonis AM is a leading women’s health expert and advisor, a senior honorary research fellow at the University of Melbourne department of general practice and a long-standing member of the Royal Australian College of General Practitioners’ expert committee on quality care.

Dr Michael Gannon is a consultant obstetrician and gynaecologist with 18 years’ experience as a specialist. He has delivered over 5000 babies. He served as president of the AMA from 2016 to 2018. He is president of leading professional indemnity provider MDA National.

Dr Ritu Gupta, fellow of the Australasian College of Dermatologists, is a specialist dermatologist skilled in cosmetic, medical, and surgical dermatology. She graduated with honours in medicine from the University of Sydney and was awarded a PhD for ground-breaking research into Vitamin D and the skin. She is a regular presenter at conferences and in the media, and has a keen interest in educating the general practitioner community and the public on dermatology.

Matthew Condon is an award-winning journalist and the author of more than 18 works of both fiction and non-fiction, including the bestselling true crime trilogy – Three Crooked Kings, Jacks and Jokers and All Fall Down. His other books include The Trout Opera and The Motorcycle Café. In 2019 he was awarded a Medal of the Order of Australia for services to the community. Andrew McMillen is an award-winning journalist and author based in Brisbane. Since January 2018, he has worked as national music writer at The Australian. Previously, his feature writing has been published in The New York Times, Rolling Stone and GQ. He won the feature writing category at the Queensland Clarion Awards in 2017 for a story published in The Weekend Australian Magazine, and won the freelance journalism category at the Queensland Clarion Awards from 2015–2017. In 2014, UQP published his book Talking Smack: Honest Conversations About Drugs, a collection of stories that featured 14 prominent Australian musicians.

Damon Kitney has spent three decades in financial journalism, including 16 years at The Australian Financial Review and 12 years as Victorian business editor at The Australian. He specialises in writing the untold personal stories of the nation’s richest and most private people and now has his own writing and advisory business, DMK Publishing. He has published three books, The Price of Fortune: The Untold Story of being James Packer; The Inner Sanctum, and The Fortune Tellers.

Nadia Salemme is a senior editor and digital director whose work has been published by The Australian, The Sunday Telegraph, Vogue, Stellar, and news.com.au. Her career has included stints in London, New York and Los Angeles, and as part of a national news desk, she has covered international politics, the finance/business sector, and high-profile interviews, spanning agenda-setting celebrities to political figures.

Bridget Cormack worked on The Australian’s arts desk from 2010 to 2013, before spending a year in the Brisbane bureau as Queensland arts correspondent. Milanda Rout is the deputy editor of The Weekend Australian’s Travel + Luxury. A journalist with over two decades of experience, Milanda started her career at the Herald Sun and has been at The Australian since 2007, covering everything from prime ministers in Canberra to gangland murder trials in Melbourne. She started writing on travel and luxury in 2014 for The Australian’s WISH magazine and was appointed deputy travel editor in 2023.

Steve Waterson is a senior writer at The Australian. He studied Spanish and French at Oxford University, where he obtained a BA (Hons) and MA, before beginning his journalism career. He reported for various British newspapers, including London’s Evening Standard and the Sunday Times, then joined The Australian in 1993, where he worked as a columnist and senior editor before moving to TIME magazine three years later. He was editor of TIME’s Australian and New Zealand editions until 2009, when he rejoined The Australian.
