Revamped bargain Sydney hotel is the first of its kind in Australia

Guests settling the bill at the just reopened and newly renovated Song in the heart of Sydney will also be contributing to a bottom line beyond the usual corporate goals at Australia’s first profit-for-purpose hotel.

The hotel has 156 newly renovated rooms.

Positioning itself as a good-value stay with rooms from $200 a night including a cooked breakfast, Song Hotel’s dividends directly contribute to the work of YWCA Australia, an organisation supporting women across housing, services and leadership pathways for more than 140 years.

It began with the first YWCA in Australia in 1880 set up by Mary Jane Barker who established a safe home for vulnerable immigrant women working as shop girls, factory hands and domestic servants.

Song Kitchen is the hotel’s onsite restaurant and bar.

Song general manager Jon Ackary says 25 cents in every dollar spent at the hotel goes towards the work of YWCA.

“Every guest that stays with us naturally becomes part of a greater good as soon as they walk through the door,” Ackary says.

“We’re a hotel with heart and staying with us is something to feel good about.”

In 2023, YWCA Australia provided 130,000 nights of safe accommodation to women, supported 6000 people through vital programs and provided homes for 529 people, in part due to the support of Song Hotel guests.

The hotel’s 156 newly renovated rooms include 62 with private balconies, six larger corner rooms, six accessible rooms and eight family rooms. There’s also an onsite restaurant and bar where half of the wines on the wine list are from female winemakers or female estate owners.

Close to Hyde Park, Pitt Street Mall and on the doorstep of Darlinghurst and Surry Hills, the hotel is a minute’s walk from Sydney’s Museum Station, which is on the airport train line.
