What a beauty entrepreneur puts on her plate each day

Beauty entrepreneur and co-founder of Sundae Body, Lizzie Waley, 31, shares her day on a plate.

7am Vegemite and avocado on toast, a soy latte and about a million vitamins, fish oil capsules etc.

12.30pm Hainanese chicken rice. It’s a Singaporean dish – I’m half Singaporean – and is hands down my favourite meal.

3.30pm Some delicious Portuguese custard tarts while chugging down my second coffee of the day.

7pm Eye fillet steak and mash, plus a lemon soda.

8.30pm I need a sweet snack before bed, so I have a chai tea. It’s full of sugar and the most likely reason I can’t fall asleep until 11pm, but it’s so delicious I drink it anyway!

If you keep eating like this you’ll … Starve your gut microbiome, as you don’t have enough fibre, nor the array of fibre and plant compounds required. This day had few vegies, fruit, legumes or nuts, while mash is usually made using peeled potatoes, removing most of the fibre.

Why don’t you try … Ensuring your toast and rice are wholemeal. Add a green salad to lunch, and roast or steamed vegies to dinner. Limit sweet treats to once a week and instead make a bowl of fruit salad topped with nuts. In the evening, try a sugar- and caffeine-free herbal chai made with soy milk.
