The Cooks Larder
One of Avalon's frontier foodie destinations, the Larder is still going strong. An extensive frontage enjoys dappled sunlight under a graceful gum tree, while inside is all about the bustling kitchen and bountiful deli counter. Using a custom blend from Single Origin Roasters, the Larder's short black ($3.50) hits you right between the eyes, with a spicy aroma and strong, long-lasting, fruity twang. The kitchen's output is impressive, from breakfast through to dinner, not to mention take-home meals. Classics include a beef pie with Paris mash and a formidable croque-monsieur with a melting medley of Quattro Stelle ham, house-made ketchup and gruyere.
