From walk-in bars to set price food and drink packages, these hotspots are putting on a fittingly fine show for the last night of 2023.
We’ve rounded up 10 events across Sydney where you can say goodbye to 2023 – and hello to 2024 – in style. There’s an Italian-inspired soiree, rooftop revelry, walk-in options and more.
Le Foote
The decadent new-ish grillhouse from the crew behind Hubert and Alberto’s Lounge is putting on a one-off banquet menu in their mosaic-adorned dining room. Highlights include caviar and smoked creme fraiche tartlets, a chilled seafood selection, as well as wagyu striploin and king prawns hot off the charcoal grill. Finish with their summery take on rum baba with macerated cherries. Step outside and you’re already in the prime firework-watching spot, The Rocks.
Price: $180 per person for ten dishes plus a glass of champagne.

Taphouse
If you’re after a celebratory feast that’s more budget than blow-out, head to the roof of Darlinghurst boozer the Taphouse and choose between their Chinese a la carte and banquet menu. The banquet menu hits all the nostalgic classics (hello, sweet and sour pork), but their a la carte menu offers more NYE-worthy centrepieces like roast duck platter, steamed barramundi and wok-fried mud crab. Take advantage of all of their frozen gin cocktail specials going for $15 instead of the usual $20, too.

Otto
Beyond the million-dollar water views, Otto is the perfect spot to catch the last sun rays of 2023. Those with packed NYE agendas can take advantage of the Italian stalwart’s full a la carte menu at their first seating at 5pm. From 7.30pm, diners will be offered a four-course menu, plus a glass of Charles Heidsieck champagne on arrival. Standouts include zucchini flowers filled with scallops and prawn and wagyu chuck tail flap MBS 9+ steak. Kids are also catered for with a special $60 menu.

Ho Jiak Town Hall
Junda Khoo’s supercharged Malaysian “playground” has a luxurious a la carte menu that seems like it was made for celebrating New Year’s Eve. Go all out with lobster pipis sang mee and bone marrow roti, or choose your own adventure with a selection of finessed Malaysian sauces to accompany NT mud crab and whole coral trout. That is, if you can look past the expertly executed classics like Hainanese chicken and swimmer crab char kwai teow. Banquet menus are also on offer if it all sounds too good to make a decision.

Shell House
All four levels at Shell House will be open as usual for NYE, a stone’s throw away from the action at Circular Quay. Enjoy the Italo-inspired menu at the cool and casual Menzies Bar & Bistro (don’t miss the lobster rolls), snack on caviar up at the Clocktower Bar, or go all out at the Dining Room with showstoppers like grilled southern rock lobster and 900 gram Delmonico steak. All levels have the option to add a bottle of Perrier-Jouët and a serving of their signature “crab & caviar” for $150.

El Primo Sanchez
They’ll be slinging as many moreish Mexican canapes as you can eat for three hours at this mezcal bar’s inaugural New Year’s Eve party. Cured snapper tostadas, blue swimmer crab tacos and classic tacos al pastor are standouts, but the evening’s mission should be to try all nine. Margarita cheesecake and corn tres leches with salted caramel will satisfy sweet tooths, too. Tickets include three cocktail tokens for mezcal-fuelled night festivities. After 10pm, canapes will stop roaming to make way for some serious dancing, but $60 tickets will score you two El-Primo cocktails.

Pizza Madre
If battling the city crowds isn’t your thing, head to Pizza Madre in Marrickville for vegetarian wood-fired pizzas in relaxed surrounds. Try their December selections from their a la carte menu, or add some mezze, a seasonal salad, and a dessert (cherry pavlova, we’re looking at you) to make it a set menu for $65 per person.

Belles Hot Chicken
If you’re looking for a good way to cleanse yourself of 2023, sweat it out with some spicy fried chook at Belles Hot Chicken. All of their Sydney locations will be taking walk-ins and offering their full menu. Opt for their big wings for the maximum crispy skin-to-meat ratio, and wash it down with a schooner of Belles Draught, which will be on special for $5.

The Dolphin Hotel
The Surry Hills pub will be throwing open its doors to all comers, whether they’re here for a couple of drinks, or eyeing off their Italian-leaning menu. Celebrate what was 2023 and the return of the Dolphin’s wood-fire pizza oven, helmed by Bella Brutta alum Sasha Smiljanic.

Cho Cho San
This chic izakaya is continuing their popular “buns and bubbles” package during the day on New Year’s Eve. The star of the show is the roast duck set that is accompanied by bao buns and all the trimmings. For $105, you will get free flowing bubbles, wines and beers, and $145 will include select cocktails as well. In the evening, a full a la carte menu plus banquet menus will be available. Their 22-piece sashimi platter has New Year’s Eve celebrations written all over it.
