Hotel Brunswick

13/20

Contemporary$$

With one of the loveliest beer gardens in the region, the Brunz offers something for everyone in its glorious riverfront location. There's a family-friendly vibe and it oozes laid-back charm; it's really only the food that's hit and miss. A predictable menu serves up burgers, steaks and crumbed calamari generously portioned and groaning with chips and salad, although the specials board contains the odd gem such as a duck and lychee curry with jasmine rice, the meat satisfyingly tender in its mildly spicy creamy sauce. Grilled octopus is a hearty pile of caramel-y, balsamic-y baby cephalopods; and a coil of gamey Bangalow sweet pork sausage comes with mash positively silky.
