Modern Australian$$

This retro-themed haunt has us excited about the big things that can be done in a small place. Everything here is made in-house, from the smoked bacon to the cured fish, jams, pickles, yoghurts and ice-cream. And they have fun with them - so there's bacon ice-cream on the fat stack of fluffy ricotta hotcakes, served with an espresso syrup for good measure. The Toby's Estate Woolloomooloo blend comes up sweet in milk coffees ($3.50), and a single origin espresso, made very short on the Mirage Veloce machine, is a rich and savoury brew. Add stacks of vinyl, and a basketball hoop in the middle of the room and it'll ring just about anyone's bells.
