Bowan Island Bakery
Contemporary
Although busy Victoria Road is right at the doorstep, this bakery-cafe still manages to exist in its own peaceful bubble. It's warm and low-key, the kind of place where it feels fine to linger over a house-label coffee. Beautiful breads include a range of Irish soda and sourdough as well as Turkish and ciabatta: all baked fresh in house. There are pies, burgers, curries and schnitzel, plus simple, light dishes such as toasted sourdough topped with fresh tomato and basil or buttery scrambled eggs. Follow it up with a tempting house-made pastry or cake. Also cnr Queen & William streets, Five Dock 9747 0484 and 2/108 Warrane Road, Chatswood 9882 3525.
