Chicco

Modern Australian$$

Chicco is a welcoming space. Hessian cushions soften darkwood furniture and a front wall of windows lets the world in. But then, there’s the hippy-trippy back-wall murals of Ganesha (Hindu’s elephant-headed deity) and a handful of skulls. Tried-and-true breakfasts jockey with quirkier options: three doughy house-made crumpets come aesthetically topped with guacamole (pleasingly chunky and not afraid of a chilli kick) and cured salmon; and a petite tin of Norwegian sardines shares the plate with pesto-topped poached eggs on rye. A big, pulled pork baguette is smoky-sweet, with apple and walnut slaw a clever counterpoint.
