‘I treat myself to the lolly jar in the hotel’: This CEO’s day on a plate
Felicity McGahan is the group CEO of accessories retailer Strand. The 50-year-old shares her day on a plate.
7.45am For breakfast, I have water, coffee and a poached egg on toast.
1pm For lunch, I love my sushi – salmon nigiri, or something equally simple. It helps to keep me fuelled but not too full.
7pm On weekday evenings, I’m usually at a dinner for work or on calls with our London office and often at a hotel. It would be easy to make some unhealthy meal choices but tonight I opt for an Uber Eats dish of teriyaki salmon. More water.
8.30pm I treat myself to a few bullets and strawberry and creams from the lolly jar in the hotel.
Dr Joanna McMillan says:
Top marks for … Getting a good wholefood source of protein into each meal with your egg and salmon. Spreading protein across the day helps with appetite control and muscle metabolism.
If you keep eating like this you’ll … Starve your gut microbes of fuel as your day is very low in fibre, both the amount and the variety. You also lack the antioxidants and other plant chemicals that help to protect our body cells from damage as we age. You list no fruit, vegetables, nuts or legumes in your day.
Why don’t you try … Adding avocado and vegies such as spinach, mushrooms or asparagus to breakfast. Have a seaweed salad with your sushi. Snack on a bowl of berries and nuts instead of the lollies. Add stir-fried Asian greens to your dinner order.
