The Dip

$$

It's in the heart of the Spanish quarter, but this is no tapas joint. The punters who fill this deliciously kitschy canteen are here for the Tex-Mex/American diner-style treats. Peckish punters can share a basket of corn chips with watermelon salsa and jalapeno cream or skip straight to the sweets. The cookies 'n' cream arrives looking like a sweet tooth's fantasy sandwich, but the salted caramel ice-cream perfectly balances the sweetness of the chewy molasses biscuits. For a more substantial fix, go a hot dawg special or the original 'Lev's Dawg', a smoked kosher hotdog with chipotle mayo, tomato salsa, peppers and a bright yellow zigzag of American mustard.
