Revolver
Built in 1893, this imposing site was intended to be a pub, but the idea got buried under a mountain of protests. Thank goodness the locals don't feel the same way about coffee. Now Revolver has become one of the hubs of Annandale social life, with beautifully handled coffee ($3.20) from Morgan's Handcrafted Coffee roasters. The kitchen rocks, with great cakes, nine-hour slow-roasted lamb bruschetta and a spot-on parmesan scrambled eggs with sumac bacon and fennel. Even tea lovers get a boost with the Boost - echinacea, Siberian ginseng and yuzu citron honey, served with an hourglass for correct steeping time.
