Red Door
Contemporary
A half-hour's drive inland from Geelong, Red Door is a bit out of the way. That has its advantages. Once here, there's space and time to read a chapter of your book, to pick up a bunch of organic asparagus from the produce shelves and of course to eat from the short blackboard menu. It's simple, and everything is made here: meatloaf sandwich lightly toasted with cheese and chunky sweet chutney, or gozleme filled with organic spinach and four cheeses and served with tzatziki and smooth beetroot dip. It's a beautiful, light space, with turned wood tables and a distressed timber counter- where you order and ogle neatly displayed jars of sweets: honey joys and meringue.
