Quan Viet
Vietnamese$$
Like the pearl in an oyster, this Vietnamese gem is tucked into an unassuming shopping strip. Inside, bright floor-to-ceiling stylised pictures of Vietnam are an exciting precursor to the fare to come. A speciality is mini coconut and rice-flour pancakes with crisp edges and delicate, soft centres, a pink prawn reclining on each one. Prawn-and-pork coleslaw is a tasty tangle of mint, crunchy peanuts and shallots and sweet, toothsome baby lotus root. For mains try caramelised fish claypot, or meaty mackerel steaks in a rich black pepper and sticky dark caramel glaze. Complimentary pandan tea completes the authentic Vietnamese picture.
