Owners bid adieu to Bistro Moncur in Mosman

The imminent closure of the Mosman branch of Bistro Moncur has met with a mixed response, some regulars bemoaning its exit to Good Food while other foodie pundits argue it struggled to measure up to the Woollahra original.

News of the closure comes as Public House Management Group (owner of the Bistro Moncur brand) didn't extend a three-year deal that had seen them manage The Buena Hotel, the Mosman home to Bistro Moncur. The Buena's owner and incoming management will keep the Mosman restaurant open, but rename it in coming months.

Public House has invested in its Moncur mothership in recent months, bringing founder Damien Pignolet back as a consultant.

Its owners announced they'll also throw some more money at the Woollahra original. The word on Queen Street is that the renovation will include remodelling the way the restaurant interacts with the neighbouring pub bar.

Public House has been pruning of late, offloading the Four in Hand to John Azar, owner of Duke of Gloucester Hotel. Azar has been tight-lipped on plans, but the one-time home of the pig's ear schnitzel is believed to be heading down a simpler food path.
