Chinta Ria: Mood for Love is closing at Westfield Sydney
Restaurateur Simon Goh will turn out the lights for the last time at his Westfield Sydney restaurant on Saturday night.
The closure of Chinta Ria: Mood for Love caps a miserable run for many of the high-profile restaurateurs who banked on the revamped shopping centre.
Justin North's Becasse famously flamed there, as did Cara & Co, which featured a highly credentialled European kitchen crew.
Hatted chef Alessandro Pavoni's Spiedo came and went, and David Tsirekas was unable to repeat the massive success of Perama in Petersham at his short-lived Xanthi restaurant.
While its food court and mid-market offerings have boomed, the high early casualty rate at the pointier end has been noticeable.
While Goh described business as "sporadic", he's proud of Chinta's seven-year run. "I'm happy my lease is over ... I'm going to sit back and relax for a bit," the veteran restaurateur says.
