POLICE are investigating the thefts of two vehicles in Alice Springs between Tuesday night and Wednesday morning, one of which was used to ram raid the gates of a hotel.

Early this morning, NT Police Southern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Vicki Koum said a white Toyota HiLux, registration number 788495, and a white Mitsubishi with WA plates, registration number BM33096, had been stolen in two separate incidents.

“There was an unlawful entry at a property in East Side, where (the) Toyota HiLux was stolen,” she said.

“The offenders stole two sets of car keys.

“They returned a second time to try and steal the other car, however the (home’s) occupants woke up which disturbed the offenders, and they fled.”

A NT Police spokesman has since reported that the offenders stole the second vehicle from a hotel on Gregory Tce, after stealing the car keys, as well as cash, from one of its hotel rooms.

He said they then used the vehicle to ram through the hotel’s locked security gates, causing considerably damage to both the gates and the car.

Members of Strike Force Viper later found the car abandoned on a street in Sadadeen.

The first vehicle is still outstanding.
