A MAN has allegedly punched a woman, knocking her to the ground, and stomped on her head in a violent domestic assault in the Darwin CBD overnight.
NT Police Northern Watch Commander Senior Sergeant Len Turner said about 8.30pm last night, a 34-year-old man and a 31-year-old woman known to each other were on Smith St, near Woolworths, when they got into an argument.
“It is alleged that the pair had an argument, and the man then punched the female. This caused her to fall to the ground,” he said.
“The man allegedly stomped on her head a few times after this.”
Snr Sgt Turner said police had attended the scene after receiving a call about the incident, and arrested the man.
He is expected to be charged today.
