ONE of the six people allegedly involved in a brutal bashing on Darwin’s nightclub strip on Christmas Eve has hit another snag in his fight for bail.

Karl Gruber, 19, appeared in the Darwin Supreme Court on Tuesday supported by several members of his family to apply for a review of a decision to deny him bail.

Gruber, alongside the five other alleged offenders, were denied bail by Darwin Local Court Judge John Neill late last year.

The application was adjourned last week, with his lawyer James Stuchbery again telling the court a suitable address still had not been found for him to be bailed to.

“We do have a suitable bail address, or what is likely to be a suitable bail address, with people who are currently away from the NT,” Mr Stuchbery said.

“They are willing to offer a bail address on certain conditions … including attending DCC (the Darwin Correctional Centre) and speaking with Mr Gruber.”

Mr Stuchbery said Gruber requested he not have to wear an electronic monitoring device as one of his bail conditions as he intended to continue playing NTFL.

Gruber is a Division 1 player for the Palmerston Magpies.

However, he said if it meant he could be granted bail, Gruber would be “willing to submit to assessment for electronic monitoring”.

Mr Stuchbery told the court last week he was requesting a bail review on his client’s behalf because they disputed the order of events as told by police “on the basis of observations made of the CCTV footage”.
