A MAN granted bail after being charged over his alleged involvement in a serious buggy crash remains behind bars as he failed to come up with the bail money.

Michael Dixon, 35, was granted bail in the Darwin Local Court on Tuesday on the condition he provide a $3000 surety.

He stands charged with driving cause serious harm and drink driving over the crash which seriously injured his partner – a police officer with the Road Policing Command.

However, after the success of his bail application, the NT News understands Dixon remains behind bars as he and his family were unable to get the $3000 together.

He may now be forced to remain behind bars until his next court appearance on February 8.

The court heard that Dixon and his partner, 33-year-old Kristi Wenck, were at a party in the early hours of Sunday where Dixon had been drinking.
