A man allegedly overcome with a blinding rage while stopped at a traffic light outside Darwin has faced court for the first time.
Viliami Latu Talia’Uli, 57, appeared in Darwin Local Court on Wednesday accused of repeatedly punching a Darwin motorist in a fit of road rage.
It was alleged the 57-year-old pummelled the driver of a dark grey Commodore while it was stopped at the Coolalinga traffic lights on Saturday, January 7.
Footage shared on social media appeared to show the alleged victim holding up his hands in defence as two people repeatedly punched a driver through an open window.
The alleged victim, Milner father Jayden Kearney, was left with a fractured jaw and eye socket, a crooked nose, chipped teeth and split lips.
Speaking to this publication after the alleged incident, his partner Brie’Staria Radovanovich alleged two people jumped out of a white Prado.
It was alleged before he could respond, the pair started punching the 21-year-old driver.
Ms Radovanovich said her partner was not only left with multiple facial fractures and chipped teeth, but was traumatised by the alleged random attack.
“His anxiety has gotten worse, he can’t properly sleep, he’s afraid to stop at red lights,” she said.
Talia’Uli was charged with one count of aggravated assault.
On Wednesday, Judge Richard Wallace was told Talia’Uli had made an application for Legal Aid.
The matter was adjourned to March 1.
