Manslaughter charges have been dropped against an 18-year-old who spent almost three months in jail after the death of a man in Peppimenarti in September last year.

Michael Singar was taken into custody shortly after a 36-year-old man was fatally wounded with an arrow during heightened family unrest in the small Daly River community.

However manslaughter charges against the teen were withdrawn and dismissed at the Darwin Local Court on May 31.

The court heard a different man – whose identity was yet to be confirmed – had been charged with manslaughter in relation to the 36-year-old’s death.

The 36-year-old was allegedly shot by a crossbow amid unrest on September 13.

He was taken to the community health clinic, where he was declared deceased just before midnight.

Singar was placed in jail in Darwin on September 14 and remained there until November 30 when he was granted bail.

He was released on the condition he wear an ankle monitor and not venture more than 40km from Darwin’s city centre.

Singar remains charged with an aggravated count of recklessly endangering life and several breaches of bail.
