A teenager who allegedly fired an arrow into another man, has faced court for the first time.

Michael Singar, 18, appeared in Darwin Local Court on Thursday charged with the manslaughter of a 36-year-old man in Peppimenarti, a small West Daly Region community.

The 18-year-old is accused of fatally wounding the older man with an arrow amid heightened family tensions in the West Daly region.

Police said the 36-year-old man died just before midnight after allegedly being shot with an arrow on Tuesday, September 13.

The 36-year-old was taken to the community health clinic, where he was declared deceased.

Police previously said an 18-year-old was assisting in the investigation.

Singar appeared before Judge Therese Austin on Thursday in a brief hearing, which lasted less than three minutes.

The young man sat quietly in the dock as his case was heard in Darwin, 320km from his home.

No application for bail was made, but his lawyer John Blackley said an application may be made at a later stage.

Singar will return to Darwin Local Court for a preliminary examination mention on November 9.
