An alleged crossbow killer’s safety has become investigators “paramount” priority after his home was destroyed, a court has heard.

Michael Singar appeared via a prison video link into Darwin Local Court for a bail application on Wednesday.

The 18-year-old allegedly fatally shot a 36-year-old man in Peppimenarti amid simmering family tensions in the West Daly region in September.

Singar was charged with manslaughter and recklessly endangering life following the September 13 incident.

Crown prosecutor Marty Aust said there was no opposition to the teenager being released to Palmerston, despite grave concerns for his safety.

“The address that was proposed as a potential in Peppimenarti has been destroyed,” Mr Aust said.

“It is obviously of real concern from police and prosecution that this young man’s safety is a

paramount.”

“We do feel that this (bail) plan is sufficient to have confidence that he will remain safe.”

Judge John Neill said there had been significant delays in finding Singar a safe home, three months on from the alleged incident.

Mr Neill said a bail assessment report confirmed Singar’s Peppimenarti home had been “smashed up”.

Mr Neill approved Singar’s bail application, with the teenager to stay with family at a Moulden home.

The Peppimenarti teen was ordered to wear an electronic monitoring device and was banned from going more than 40km from Darwin’s city centre.

Mr Aust reminded the young man that if he felt unsafe at any point in the community, he should contact police.

His matter will return to court on January 25 for a preliminary examination mention.
