GLITZ and glamour were the toast of the track tonight at the launch of the Great Northern Darwin Cup Carnival at Fannie Bay.
Darwin Turf Club members, carnival sponsors and other members of the Top End horse racing community caroused with champagne and canapes at the club before club chairman Brett Dixon ushered in the return of Darwin’s pre-eminent social and sporting event.

The first whips of the carnival will crack on Saturday at the Guineas race day, which kicks off the eight-race meeting calendar.
The annual DTC Gala Ball will this year be held on Saturday, August 3, with the Darwin Cup to be held on Monday, August 5.

DTC member Kate McCullough said there was no better trackside atmosphere than at the Darwin Cup Carnival.
“It’s a small community but it’s great racing,” she said.

Carnival ambassador Brooke Prince said she could feel racing season in the air.
