SUPERCAR drivers, crews and officials have arrived in Darwin, including a number of them who have entered mandatory quarantine at a Smith St hotel ahead of next weekend’s delayed Darwin Triple Crown.
Supercars had originally planned to hold a double-header at Hidden Valley across next two weekends to catch up on races in its COVID-ravaged season.
Those plans were delayed when the NT declared Brisbane and Logan as COVID hotspots, forcing some team members to undergo mandatory quarantine on arrival.
NT Major Events CEO Tim Watsford confirmed Supercars crew members would complete quarantine at the H Hotel on Smith St after two bus loads of staff were seen arriving there on Wednesday night.
“All the drivers, teams and officials landed on a charter flight on Wednesday night,” he told Mix 104.9.
“All the transporters are in the Territory and making their way up to the Top End, the last to arrive will be here on Friday night.
“Those who have been in and around those hotspots will make their way to immediate quarantine, they have been isolating since Friday regardless, wearing PPE and doing the whole thing.”
Supercars confirmed this weekend’s Darwin Triple Crown at Hidden Valley would now take place the following weekend on August 15-16.
The new date for the Darwin SuperSprint, which had been planned for August 15-16, is yet to be confirmed.
