THIS weekend’s Darwin Triple Crown has been pushed back a week after some Supercar crew members from Queensland prepare to enter mandatory quarantine.

The decision to delay the Hidden Valley double-header was made by organisers today after Supercars staff spent the last few days franticly scrambling to get permission to cross the NT border on time.

Originally scheduled for August 8-9, the Supercars event opener will now take place on August 15-16.

The new date for the Darwin SuperSprint, which had been planned for August 15-16, is yet to be confirmed.

Event plans were thrown into disarray last Friday after NT’s Chief Health Officer Hugh Heggie declared greater Brisbane, Ipswich and Logan hot spots, forcing arrivals from those areas into mandatory quarantine.

Logan is near where the majority of Supercars teams are located, including six operations that had to temporarily relocate to QLD from the southern states.

A NT Major Events spokeswoman said a “limited number” of crew members had been in a hotspot location within the last 14 days and would now enter mandatory quarantine upon arrival in the Territory “Supercars crews have been undergoing regular COVID-19 testing for some weeks, with no positive results returned,” she said.

“They will continue to undergo testing once they arrive in the Territory.”

Dozens of transporters that were stranded at the NT/QLD border over night on Tuesday night were finally let through on Wednesday. Delays mean the transporter convoy planned to go through Darwin on Thursday won’t go ahead.

Anyone who can no longer attend the event can request a refund via Ticketek.
