THE owners of an iconic outback lodge in Central Australia say they are closing down indefinitely due to the devastating impact of COVID-19 on the local tourism industry.
The owners of Glen Helen Lodge, which is the only accommodation in West MacDonnell Ranges National Park, announced its immediate closure in a statement on Tuesday.

“Effective immediately, the Glen Helen Lodge will be places into care and maintenance due to the compounding economic damage felt by the wide tourism industry and the increasing effects the global pandemic (COVID-19) is having on us all,” the statement said.
“The board and management have worked tirelessly on workable solutions, however the ever-present threat of further COVID-19 outbreaks and significant decrease in patronage also weighs in heavily on our decision, with our long term commitment to the region remaining in place.
“Those that hold future bookings will be contacted personally or through your respective agent by out dedicated operations team.

“Unfortunately, no services will be available at Glen Helen Lodge during this period as all stock has been removed from site. No further comment will be made.”
