POLICE are investigating if four fires — including blazes lit at three separate Palmerston playgrounds on Tuesday afternoon and Wednesday morning — are all related.

“We had a few fires out in Palmerston, one at 2pm out at George St, Johnston where playground equipment was on fire,” she said.

“We had one at 10.24 last night Duwun Rd, Roseberry where playground equipment was set alight and 11.20 again, playground equipment was lit on Lind Rd, Johnston/Farrar.

And then some trees were alight at 12.30am.”

Snr Sgt Koum said it was too early to tell if the fires were linked.

“When investigations finish, it may reveal if they are related,” she said.

“They are within close proximity, however I can’t confirm that they are (related).

“If they are being deliberately lit obviously we want to locate and deal with the people as appropriate and ensure it doesn’t happen again.

“Obviously fires are dangerous to the community but they’ve (also) damaged playground equipment, which is not good.”
