The Northern Territory’s ‘biggest year of motorsport’ is on the cards for 2025.
A jam-packed schedule boasting an international event among another six major events to take place across the Territory.
The newest addition to the calendar the Motocross World Championships has already seen a bumpy start however Minister for Major Events Marie-Clare Boothby said the revenue created would be a much needed injection into the NT’s economy.
The Minister said the MXGP in particular was set to haul in a whopping sum in the coming years.
“The MXGP of Australia is expected to inject $21.8m into the Territory economy each year, which is projected to be $109m of new money into the NT economy over five years,” she said.
“This is in addition to our other motorsport Major Events, the Supercars and Red CentreNATS, which contributed a total of $33.41m in 2024.
“Events like these bring tourists to the Territory from interstate and overseas, which will help put pressure on airlines to schedule more flights to our region.
“It’s great to hear the BIG4 Hidden Valley Holiday Park is already fully booked with just a few of the interstate teams in September – which is outside the peak dry season visitation period.
“More than 95,000 new domestic seats for Jetstar and Qantas alone will be added to and from Darwin this year - an 11 per cent boost in domestic flight capacity compared to the same time last year.
“The accommodation sector will also benefit, as more bookings will be made for people staying in the Territory for events.”
So far 80 per cent of the tickets sold for the world renowned event have been bought by those interstate, as well as by punters from the USA, New Zealand and UK.
