RESULTS AND REPLAYS

U18 girls 9th v 10th playoff: ACT 1 Victoria Development 1 (s/o 2-1)

ACT goalkeeper Alyssa Smith has produced a remarkable display of shot stopping to ensure her team ended the tournament on a high.

Smith stood tall in a tightly-contested penalty shootout - saving four attempts - to give her side the victory.

Lucy Dunlop had given Victoria the lead after 18 minutes before Georgia Staines equalised for the ACT four minutes later.

U18 boys, second semi-final: Western Australia 5 Queensland 2

Western Australia has earned their place in the gold medal game off the back of a spirited second half comeback.

After grabbing the game’s opener through Luke Anderson in the first term, two Queensland goals in the space of a matter of minutes from Zac McCoombes and Diarmid Chappel had WA on the back foot.

A penalty corner goal from Patrick Andrew drew WA level in the third.

There was no stopping the boys in yellow in the final term as three goals from Andrew, Max Freedman and Ian Grobbelaar put the result beyond doubt.

They’ll now meet the NSW State team in the final.

Meanwhile, Queensland will face Victoria for bronze.

U18 girls, semi-final 2: Victoria 3 Western Australia 1

A double to Josie Lawton has helped guide Victoria to a come-from-behind victory, which now has her side just 60 minutes away from a potential gold medal.

WA had taken the lead through Nicole Enslin two minutes into the second quarter and appeared to be well on top of the contest.

But Lawton’s deflected strike just before half-time swung the momentum and from there the Victorians didn’t look back.

Evie Stansby gave the Big V the lead from a penalty corner before Lawton’s second secured the result late in the third term.

Victoria will now face Queensland in the decider on Friday.

WA and the NT will play for bronze.

U18 boys, semi-final 1: NSWS 3 Victoria 3 (s/o 3-1)

Ryan Oschadleus has produced a stunning penalty shootout goalkeeping display to lead NSW’s State team into the final of the boys’ competition.

The two sides couldn’t be separated in normal time after a thrilling four quarters of action.

NSW had taken the lead through Michael Arthur after just two minutes but Victoria pegged them back through Julian Nosiara shortly following quarter-time.

The two sides came alive in the third term as they went goal for goal to set up a thrilling final 15 minutes, but the tension was too much as both sides failed to score.

Victoria even failed to make the most of the opportunity afforded by Tyler Gaddes’ yellow card for NSW.

Reid came up big in the shootout making impressive saves down low as his attacking teammates took care of what they needed to.

Gaddes and Koby Johnstone were the other goalscorers for NSWS, while Oliver Marshall and Oliver Will found the back of the net for the Vics.

U18 girls, semi-final 1: Queensland 5 Northern Territory 1

Competition leading goalscorer Claire Colwill has led Queensland to a shot at a gold medal with a 5-1 win over the Northern Territory in the day’s first semi-final.

Colwill struck with the opening goal of the game after just five minutes from a penalty corner before Sophie Edwards equalised for the NT with just seconds remaining in the first term.

A second goal to Colwill in the second term opened the floodgates as Queensland ran away with the game.

Hannah Cullum-Saunders’ strike just before half-time gave her side a comfortable lead and they didn’t look back.

Jasmin Morrisey and Madeline Kenny scored goals in the second half to put the icing on the cake.

U18 boys, 9 v 10 playoff: SA 2 – NSW Blue 1

South Australia has snared ninth place thanks to a late strike from Dylan Holland.

In a high-intensity – albeit low-scoring – clash, SA edged ahead just before half-time after Hassan Singh pounced on an opportunity from the field, but the Blues weren’t to be brushed aside.

While both sides’ defences refused to give an inch in the third, the deadlock finally broke as Jaylen Harrison levelled up the ledger for the Blues to announce game on.

But an arm-wrestle ensued well into the fourth as SA surged ahead with about five minutes to play to hang on in a titanic struggle, following Holland’s handy work from a penalty corner.

U18 girls, 7 v. 8 playoff: SA 3 – NSW State 1

South Australia romped its way into seventh position after keeping New South Wales at bay all match.

While a stalemate played out in the first term, the South Aussies had no trouble finding the net thereafter with Emma Dean goaling in the shadows of half-time, before they piled on two in quick succession midway through the last.

Mercedes Theobald and SA captain Lucy Sharman made sure of the result to round out the scorecard, while a late consolation prize went to New South Wales skipper Alana Kavanagh with a field goal to finish off proceedings.

U18 boys, 7 v 8 playoff: Tasmania 1 – VIC Development 1 (s/o 3 – 1)

Tassie has come out on top in a penalty shoot-out to finish its tournament on a high, but Victoria Development pushed it all the way.

The two combatants traded goals in the second quarter through Tassie’s Sam Payne and Victoria’s Oliver Thompson, but neither side could break the other for the remainder of the match.

The winners made a statement first up in the shoot-out through Payne as he put his side 1-0 up, before Kiah House and Oliver Pritchard made the most of their opportunities. Oliver Thompson found the back of the net for Victoria as it went down 3-1.

U18 girls, 5 v 6 playoff: Tasmania 2 – New South Wales Blue 1

A heart-stopping finish has seen Tasmania finish its tournament in emphatic fashion, pipping New South Wales Blue at the post.

A scoreless first three quarters was cast aside in the final term, as the sides fought tooth and nail for victory. Tassie’s Emma Fenner struck the first blow with a field goal early in the quarter to edge ahead – but the Blues would go down swinging.

A major to Millie Fulton tied the scores up with about three minutes to play, with the Blues full of run and momentum.

They launched one last foray into attack inside the final minute or so, when a flying shot at goal found the back of the net – but was overruled.

With a draw looking likely and the adversaries set for penalties, Tasmania had other ideas as it found another gear and surged forward. With a penalty corner awarded, Emma O’Grady crafted the match-winner from directly in front with about 20 seconds left on the clock.

U18 boys, 5 v 6 playoff: ACT 1 – NT 1 (s/o 5-4)

A tough slog extending into a sixth penalty shot has seen the ACT prevail in a grandstand finish.

With the scores locked at one apiece at full-time after the NT’s Karl Hochman and the ACT’s Joshua Carter traded goals in the second and third quarters, both sides threatened in the last but couldn’t quite finish the job.

A strong start to the shoot-out from the ACT nailing the opening two opportunities nosed it ahead before the NT got a roll on, hitting back with the next four.

With superb defending from the NT’s Hayden Oates, the ACT missed in its third attempt but recovered to nail the last two through Aiden Dooley and Logan Stewart to tie things up.

In a nail-biting finish, the NT’s Karl Hochman was denied by goalkeeper Max Robson in a desperate contest of mere inches, before Dooley rose to the top in reply to seal fifth spot for the ACT.
